New Movies in Theaters Now Playing

Going to the movies has always been an acceptable excuse for a date. They are also something fun to do with the children. There happen to be some decent selections that are currently playing in theaters. The action movies that are playing right now are "Takers" and "The Expendables". "Takers" is about bank robbers that have a difficult time pulling of their last robbery. "The Expendables" has a cast packed full of action stars including: Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren. The Last Exorcism" and "Piranha 3D" are the current playing horror movies. The former is about a demon possessed girl and the latter deals with killer fish. Eat, Pray, Love" Stars Julia Roberts and is probably the only movie that is close to a drama playing now. Comedies are a hit and the theaters seem to be full of them. "Vampires Suck" is a spoof of the "Twilight" series that has consumed our adolescents' attention. "The Switch" stars Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman doing the unthinkable with artificial inhollalasemination. "The Other Guys" has Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell as a couple of detectives that go from bookwork to street work.

Upcoming Horror Movies

I compiled a list of upcoming top horror movies of 2011. The first is Season of the Witch, mainly starring Nicolas Cage and Ron Perlman. In the movie, they are knights returning to their homeland only to find it ruined by the Black Plague. As the movie proceeds, several church elders accuse a girl for causing destruction through witch craft. Thus, the two knights are entrusted to hand her over to monks who would lift the curse from their land once and for all. The movie would be released on January 7th 2011.

Red Riding Hood is also one of the upcoming top horror movies that have captured the attention of many. Amanda Seyfried plays a beautiful young woman named Valerie in the middle of a love triangle. She is in love with an orphan woodcutter but arranged to marry another. Then, Valerie's older sister is killed by the werewolf that the villagers have made a deal with since many years ago. A famed werewolf hunter is called upon to assist in killing the werewolf but his warning chills them - the wolf is able to take a human form by day and could be any of the villagers. As panic among the villagers rises along the death toll rate, she begins to suspect the identity of the werewolf. This movie injects new life to a decade long tale, bringing much needed freshness to the horror movie industry. It would be released on March 11th 2011.

It's understandable why Hollywood comes up with a lot of superhero movies every year, they can showcase really awesome special effects, they can attract more niche audiences to enjoy these movies, and they can start a franchise by bringing these comic book heroes to the mainstream moviegoing crowd. They also bring in lots of cash, so it's not surprising that there'll be a lot of superhero flicks coming our way this year as well.
